Rhode Island License Suspension for Tickets, Court Holds, or Fines
Rhode Island may receive a hold from a court or another issuing authority after an unresolved ticket, missed court date, or unpaid obligation. The issuing authority and the licensing agency can have separate steps, so the exact notice and current official record control.

What are the published Rhode Island requirements for tickets, court dates, and fines?
Rhode Island suspensions for failure to appear (FTA) or failure to pay (FTP) are coded "04" in the RI DMV system, and this is the only suspension type you can reinstate online. All other Rhode Island suspension categories require an in-person visit to the Adjudication Unit (DMV.Adjudication@dmv.ri.gov).
To reinstate:
1. Resolve the underlying ticket with the court that issued it: the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal for state-issued citations, or the relevant municipal court for city-issued citations.
2. After you've taken care of it, allow about 24 hours for the court's confirmation to reach the DMV.
3. File online at ri.gov/DMV/license_reinstatement and pay the $151.50 fee ($150 base fee plus a $1.50 technology surcharge).
No SR-22 (certificate of financial responsibility) is required for this type of suspension. If your suspension is not coded "04," you cannot use the online path and must instead go through the Adjudication Unit.
Published fee information
FTA/FTP ("04") online reinstatement $151.50 = $150 base + $1.50 technology surcharge. No SR-22. Only code-04 suspensions get the online path; all other RI categories route to the Adjudication Unit.
