Illinois Points Suspension and License Reinstatement Information
Illinois publishes rules for some suspensions involving accumulated points or repeat violations. The applicable period and any next step depend on the state's record, so use this page as general source-backed information and confirm against the current official record.

What are the published Illinois requirements for points and repeat violations?
Illinois uses a conviction-count system for moving violations rather than a points system. If you are 21 or older, getting 3 moving-violation convictions within 12 months triggers a suspension, with the length set by the Secretary of State (SOS) based on severity. If you are under 21, the threshold is 2 convictions within 24 months.
To reinstate your license, you need to serve out the suspension period and then pay a $70 SOS reinstatement fee online at apps.ilsos.gov/reinstatementfees. A traffic-safety course is not required for this standard moving-violation suspension (a course may come up during the underlying court case, but it is not part of reinstatement itself), and no SR-22 filing is required either.
Note that this is different from a DUI or serious-offense revocation, which goes through a separate SOS hearing process (informal or formal) and is not covered by this standard reinstatement path.
