Florida License Suspension for Tickets, Court Holds, or Fines

Florida may receive a hold from a court or another issuing authority after an unresolved ticket, missed court date, or unpaid obligation. The issuing authority and the licensing agency can have separate steps, so the exact notice and current official record control.

What are the published Florida requirements for tickets, court dates, and fines?

FLHSMV publishes separate clearance instructions for several traffic-citation and court-suspension categories. For an unpaid traffic fine, failure to comply with or appear at a traffic summons, or failure to complete driver improvement school, the published process starts with the traffic court in the county that issued the citation or summons. After the court requirements are satisfied, the county sends clearance information to FLHSMV electronically. FLHSMV says a reinstatement fee may then apply and the clearance can be checked through its Online Driver License Check. For an unpaid out-of-state citation, FLHSMV lists a paid receipt bearing the issuing county court's seal as proof; that proof and any applicable fee can be presented at a Florida driver license service center or mailed to the Bureau of Motorist Compliance. For certain unpaid court financial obligations, FLHSMV lists an affidavit of satisfaction dated within 30 days and applicable fees. Its page also says traffic-citation and court suspensions are not eligible for a hardship license, and additional suspensions may require separate clearances.

Published fee information

FLHSMV's help page lists a $60 reinstatement fee for each suspension for failure to pay court financial obligations. Other traffic or court holds may have a different fee or no reinstatement fee; court fines and court costs are separate.
